These batteries maintain constant voltage until they are almost fully discharged, so a tester is not a practical tool for determining how much charge is left in the battery. However, with Lithium, NiCad and NiMH batteries, battery testers are very useful in identifying which of these batteries have dead shorts (defective) or are fully discharged.
